about

HIGH WOLF presents BLACK ZONE MYTH CHANT
STRAIGHT CASSETTE LP

The infamous Black Zone Myth Chant (aka Black Zone M.C) unleashes “Straight Cassette”, a raw and radical offering where fat beats meet sci-fi synths, deeeeeep vocals and saxophone screams. Originally released on tape through High Wolf’s imprint Winged Sun Records as part of an ongoing trilogy, “Straight Cassette" - the most dronish hip-hop record in recent history - now gets a limited vinyl edition via Laitdbac Records (Alpine Decline, Bigg Jus). BZMC's raps are forgotten prayers spat in a forgotten language that find their way straight to your subconscious. Don't be surprised if you feel like destroying television sets, burning fashion clothes, growing weed and reading books.

"Black Zone Myth Chant is not just an exploration of heavily sedated flow, but actually an electronic-manipulation-of-the-human-voice project close to Steve Reich’s “Come Out” piece, Meredith Monk, or Julianna Barwick gone gangsta" -TINY MIXTAPES

"Centering around deep, hypnotic chants and burbling, space age electronics against a set of tape loops gone askew, it’s an off-kilter experience that’ll leave you slightly jilted and maybe even a tad off-put." -IMPOSE MAGAZINE

"It's gotta be the most fugged-out, abstract hip hop/drone session since Dem Hunger's 'Caveman Smack' session in 2010, holding our bonce under a slow moving whirlpool of samples and screwed voices across nine tracks until we pass out into their nexx plane of detached, disorienting psychedelia. The severely down-pitched vocal is a constant throughout the trip, an ominous, undecipherable shaman leading us from the blunted bogle of 'White Voice' to the weightless antechamber of 'Triangle Cop' and two extended pieces suggesting Popol Vuh meets Burroughs and Coleman at a Hype Williams action in Tangiers, plus three wicked Ras G-style beat offs. It's a lot." BOOMKAT
